The contribution total of all Sales reps on a transaction record does need to equal 100%. However, only sales team member contributions assigned with a 'Sales Rep' role are counted towards the 100%.
To determine which sales roles are flagged as 'Sales Rep' roles, navigate to Setup > Sales Force Automation > CRM Lists > set type equal to Sales Role and view any role. If the 'Sales Rep' field is equal to TRUE then the team members with this role will count towards the total contribution.
