The system auto-creates an Inventory Adjustment record when, upon set up and saving of the item record, there is a value entered in the Total Value field under Purchasing / Inventory Tab > Item / Cost Detail section.
If you will take a look at the Inventory Adjustment record, there is no quantity and estimated unit cost entered but has a total value.
If we set the item this way, the system recognizes it that it's as if, the opening balance of the item.
