As per Help: The Trial Balance is a report that shows the balance of each active account as of a specified date. This means that if a user runs the Report as of Dec 2013, then it would include posting transactions on and before Dec 2013.
However, there are some users who displays the balances of each Account for a specific period only, e.g. Dec 2013. To do this, please follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to Home > Set Preferences > Reporting/Search tab > Report by Period = set to Financials only or All Reports > Save
2. Customize the Trial Balance Report by going to Reports > Financial > Trial Balance
3. Click Customize
4. Click Filters
5. In the Choose Filters section > click on Period > then set the following:
*Filter = Inclusive of > then choose Dates from Jan 2013 to Dec 2013
6. Click Preview
Notice that the As of Date picker at the footer section of the Report has disappeared. It is replaced with From-To Date pickers, which gives the user the ability to show balances for Dec 2013 only.
Note: Users can change to Date Ranges by going to Home>Set Preferences>Reporting/Search>Report by Period=Never. The same Solution is applicable except that, Posting Period range will be a Date range.
