When users are unable to fulfill orders with APO address using FedEx due to an error 'Invalid recipient state code for US', consider the following:
- FedEx does not ship to an APO address. It does not deliver to P.O. boxes. When you go to www.fedex.com and get the real time rate using the zip code of APO address, it will return 'Invalid Zip'. This is a FedEx restriction and not NetSuite.
- APO is American Postal Office. A designator given postal offices on US military bases overseas. APO, which stands for Army Post Office and FPO, which stands for Fleet Post Office.
- APOs and FPOs are just like the Post Office (P.O.) boxes one can rent at the local Post Office. The only real difference being is that they are located overseas on Military bases or in U.S. Embassies. While valid domestic mailing addresses, APO/FPO addresses are not street or physical addresses; they never were and never will be.
- APO/FPO Mail - domestic mail and international mail that bears a U.S. military delivery address or return address and that, in some stage of its transmission, is in the possession of the DOD. This is mail that is being sent to or received from military installations located outside the Continental United States (CONUS).
- APO/FPO addresses have a state.
- These addresses use the following state abbreviations: AE (Armed Forces Europe), AA (Armed Forces Americas), and AP (Armed Forces Pacific).
- APO/FPO addresses are not international addresses. There is an assumption, that because the addresses reside in a foreign country, military mail goes through an international postal carrier. This is not so. Our mail goes through United States Postal Service-Priority Mail.
