This error occurs if the customer record was created from an employee record. This type of record can not be merged.
A customer record is created from an employee record using the following steps:
Required setttings:
- Duplicate Detection Criteria for customer is set to Email (Full)
- Setup > Company > Auto-Generated Numbers > Entities tab > Allow Override = True for Employee and Customer
1. Navigate to Lists > Employees > Employees > New.
2. Create Employee A with email address of empa@noemail.com.
3. Under the Access tab, check Give Access and add Customer Center to the Roles subtab.
4. Click Save.
5. Login to Customer Center using Employee A's email address and password.
6. Sign out of Customer Center.
7. Log back in to NetSuite as an Administrator.
8. Navigate to Lists > Employees > Employees.
9. Edit the Employee record.
10. Remove the Employee ID and just replace it with the Employee's name.
11. Click Save.
12. In the Global Search field, enter Employee A's email address, empa@noemail.com, then click Go.
13. Notice that a customer record has been created for the Employee record.
14. Edit the Customer record.
15. Click Make Copy.
If the user tries to merge this customer record to another record, the following error is returned:
Duplicate Merge/Delete Summary:
Successful: 0 Failed: 1
Errors occurred trying to change, merge, or delete the following records.
To remove these duplicates, you can try to resolve the issues below or mark them as 'Not a Duplicate'.
Since the ability to merge employee record is not yet available in NetSuite, when a customer record is created from an employee record, user gets the error when merging customer records.
Note: Enhancement 126644 has been filed for the ability to select for the Employee entity in Mass Duplicate Record Merge.
